EDIB, and why it matters to ALL

At the Alliance of Leading Learning, we are dedicated to upholding the principle of equality of opportunity for all in both employment and the provision of education and training. We take pride in our diverse community and fully embrace our responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010.

The Equality Act prohibits discrimination, whether direct or indirect, harassment, victimisation, or failure to make reasonable adjustments for individuals with disabilities. By consolidating anti-discrimination laws into a single Equality Act, it simplifies the legal framework, making it easier for everyone to understand and adhere to the law.

The Act identifies nine protected characteristics, ensuring that these cannot be used to justify unfair treatment. Everyone possesses one or more of these characteristics, so the Act safeguards all individuals against discrimination. The protected characteristics are:

– Age
– Disability
– Marriage and civil partnership
– Pregnancy and maternity
– Race
– Religion or belief
– Sex
– Sexual orientation
– Gender reassignment

The provisions of the Equality Act apply to all facets of our operations, including the treatment of staff, prospective participants, the wider trust network, and members of the local community.

We strive to ensure that everyone is treated with fairness and respect. Our goal is to maintain a safe and secure environment for all. We acknowledge that people have diverse needs and recognize that equality does not always mean treating everyone the same way.
