Improving Governance Programme

The Improving Governance Programme replaces the DfE Funded Governor Leadership Development Programme bringing a cost effective programme that aims to support governors in becoming highly effective senior leaders with the skills, confidence and knowledge to contribute towards the strategic development of the school.

Cost – £300

Length – 12 Months

Who is it for?

– governors in a maintained or academy school.   Ideally this programme would be best suited to governor who have a minimum of 6 months experience who are looking to develop their understanding of good governance.   This programme can be made bespoke for Multi Academy Trusts (minimum 10 Trustees / governors)

–  senior school leaders wishing to develop their understanding of what good governance looks like

– the programme aims to be both accessible and affordable for schools

Programme Summary

This programme will give you an in-depth understanding of the Competency Framework for Governance and how understanding this can make you a better governor and your board more effective.

The programme consists of 6 core zoom facilitated live sessions focused around the Governor Competency Framework and incorporating more generic and transferable leadership skills. All materials are devised by our highly skilled and experienced team of governor leads, school leaders and advanced facilitators to ensure the programme remains at the cutting-edge of education.

The 6 core zoom facilitated live session will cover the following topics:

Session 1 – Strategic Leadership
Session 2 – Accountability
Session 3 – People
Session 4 – Structures
Session 5 – Compliance
Session 6 – Evaluation

Our Delivery Model

Our delivery model adopts a blended learning approach – prioritising learning through live zoom sessions by expert facilitators, who are practising governance leaders,  supported by self-directed learning through think pieces, online learning, current cutting-edge research, work-based practice and exposure to outstanding leaders of governance as mentors.

The course will lead to you being a more effective governor, able to demonstrate a cohesive vision for the school and show full accountability for the educational performance of the children and for financial effectiveness.
